Just Right!
I haven't tried wall-mounting it, though I understand it works that way as well. The oscillating feature is nice, as is the adjustment of fan direction. I greatly appreciate the silent operation, ease of operation, and good airflow at any speed. Definitely worth a lot more than I paid for it!

Got $20 and need fan? Look no further,
My old fan was loud, rickety, tall and dusty, dirty, etc...
I brought in this Soleus Air and I am so happy. This is wonderful in any small office space or bedroom for sure.
It's whisper quiet, you cannot even tell it's oscillating because it's all done very subtle-like which means it doesn't take up a ton of space having to move the entire head back and forth.
It's beautiful aesthetically, and functionally.
The best $20 I spent all summer.

I love this fan!
1. it's really quiet
2. it's powerful and covers a wide range
3. it's novel ( different, yet attractive )
4. it's inexpensive
5. it's delivered quickly and safely
The only drawback is it's all plastic, but still durable.
I highly recommend this product.

Most Effecient Design in Fans EVER~~~The Best
I got this to take on vacation with me. It is a bit smaller than the other 3 I have and is much less expensive than I paid for them.
There is a brand on Amazon that is made for infants rooms and it operates with this type air circulation. They state a study has been done that having a circulating fan like this in the room reduces the rate of SIDS deaths by 72%. You can do a search and read more. That is not my statement but one made here on Amazon.
I can just tell you on speed one it is quiet enough to sleep with. When you have it in an average living room or bedroom there is just a constant gentle breeze. I can set my AC to a higher temp when I run these and feel much cooler.
I tried the timer and mine is silent so I cannot complain about that. I have no use for that anyway.
I cannot recommend these enough. Anyone who has been to my house and felt how these move the air has been amazed. Once you use this technology yhou will never go back to regular fans.
The only con I can find is that it is shipped in the box alone. It is not put inside another box to protect it. My box looked like it had been through the war. I was afraid I would find just a bunch of broken plastic inside but it was in one piece and works just fine.

This fan also has a timer that will auto-shutoff so you can go to sleep with the fan on but not have to have the fan blowing all night long. The fan also has a "tip over" switch built in so it will shut off if it is not standing upright.

10" table / wall oscillating fan - quiet
Saturday, September 12, 2009
A wonderful fan!
I originally bought this fan because of the wall-mounting feature, which I needed to equalize the air conditioning in my home. I planned to mount it in a doorway. Before I had time to hang it, I stuck it on top of the TV at the foot of my bed and it hasn't moved since!!! The rotating grill gives a nice, gentle, cool breeze every 30-45 seconds. Love it!
I could do without all the plastic, but this fan did hard time last summer and hasn't let me down this season. It needs a serious vacuuming, frankly.
Other fans from this manufacturer appear kinda cheezy, but the FTY-25 is a winner.

Soleus Air FTY125 10 inch fan
A personal fan with attitude!
On low speed it's near silent which makes it perfect for the night stand, creating a peaceful breeze across my bed . (Another reviewer noted a loud timer mechanism and Soleus may have rectified this. I have to put my ear right next to it, with the fan off, in order to hear it at all.)
High speed does a good job moving air, quietly at that - stand next to it and it'll cool you off fast. More suited to mild circulation in a large room at this and medium speeds, cooling off a larger room of folks is better left to larger table or floor and free-standing fans.
The neatest thing about the Soleus is the switch selectable spinning front grille which creates gentle fluctuating waves of air. A first showing to friends and family evokes a giddy response every time. Not as effective, or as abrupt, as a fan head swinging through a 140 degree arc, it nonetheless eliminates the static current one gets from a stationary fan.
The silent operation, the two hour timer, a unique soothing oscillation mode, the deco styling with a match-all finish, a reasonable footprint and mounting versatility make this the ultimate personal fan.
Very quiet, including a very quiet timer
The rotating grille, at first, looks symmetrical. On closer inspection, each successive louver changes angle as they move around the circle of the grille. Thus, when you turn the grille rotation feature on, the air sweeps in a wide conical pattern as it moves away from the fan. If you want the air to go in a particular direction, you can leave the grille rotation switch in the off position and rotate the grille by hand until the air is blowing in the direction you want.
I actually use the two-hour timer feature a lot. The exhaust fan in my bathroom is ineffective, so when I shower, I leave the door open and have a fan blowing into the bathroom so that moisture doesn't cling to the walls and cause mildew. After the shower, I keep the fan on for two hours to make sure the entire bathroom dries out. My tile stays mildew-free a lot longer when I do this. I can leave for work with the fan running.
During a heat wave, when it cools off at night as it does here, I set the fan in my window, up against the screen, to bring cool air inside. At bedtime, if it's still a few degrees too warm, I keep the fan on and use the 2-hour timer so it doesn't stay on all night.
This is the quietest fan I've ever owned, though not the most powerful. It's great for smaller rooms, especially the bedroom at night when it's warm. The timer is absolutely quiet. (If you happen to get one that ticks loudly as another reviewer did, it's defective and you should exchange it for another one.)
One other nice thing is that you can mount this fan on a wall or on a door jamb, high up and out of the way. There are a couple of key-hole shaped screw holes in the bottom of the feet to accept mounting screws. Very useful if you have a situation where you need the fan in a permanent place and you want it out of the way -- I'm going to mount it on the wall just outside my bathroom for just this reason and buy a second one for the living room, to use on the window sill.

Excellent product
Quiet as advertised and superior in design to the traditional fan. The 21st Century-looking style and the fact that it takes up little horizontal space are big pluses. Highly recommend.
Good desk fan for a cubicle
I bought this fan for my cubicle desk area since the office airflow isn't all that great and sitting around a pc and monitor all day certainly keeps the air warm. This fan is small, light, and very easy to carry around. It fit nicely into a backpack to carry to the office. I was worried that the small airflow opening wouldn't provide a good air circulation but I was proven wrong when I turned it on. The max setting is relatively whisper quiet which is nice for the office area. Sitting within 1 to 5 feet of the unit you'd get a pretty good airflow (on medium or max setting). It's meant to be a desk fan so I wouldn't recommend this if you've got a large office and sitting far away from it. Plus, I don't think I'd need anything more powerful than this, otherwise you're just blowing papers around your desk. The ocillation and timer features are nice though I haven't had the need to use them often. Buttons on the top of the fan, easy and strightforward to use. Overall, a good value fan for the office.

Ticking Timer
We use fans at night to create a soft breath of air as we go to sleep. For this purpose, "quiet" is good. We live in the country and the natural sounds are pleasant and actually reassuring. "White noise" is unneeded.
Except for the timer, the Soleus is a good, quiet solution. The timer makes a fast ticking noise like some older kitchen timers.
A complete explanation of the Soleus controls and operation is surprisingly wordy. I'll try to cut it short...
The timer is mechanical. Once the timer dial is turned, the mechanism will tick for the maximum period that it was turned to, even if turned off in the meantime. In other words, if the dial is moved to the 2 hours position and then immediately moved back to "off" (even unplugged), then when the fan is turned back on the next day (even to just the untimed "on" position), it is going to tick for 2 hours.
The Soleus can be made to operate quietly. Just never move the timer dial to a timed-setting position.
Since we don't care about a timer when we are awake and can't use it to go to sleep, we taped the timer to the "on" position. With the timer dial in the "on" position, the fan can be turned off and on with the Fan Speed Switch, which has an "off" position, or with a quiet external electronic timer.
For those who want a smallish fan that moves a lot of air, the Vornado 550B moves more air. Unfortunately, the 550B has a variable speed controller that hums like an old fluorescent light, which makes it unacceptable to those who want a truly quiet low-speed fan.

Works great - looks nice and is quite!
Not much to comment about - The fan runs quietly, being relatively small-sized and the convenient timer shuts off the power in 30-min increments for up to two hours.
For under $20 and free shipping, it was a great deal! Thanks, Amazon.

Good Fan but can be better
I am using this as wall fan. It is able to be adjusted from left to right but cannot be adjusted up and down. For my situation, it is pointing too much down. I wish it can also be adjusted up and down.
Because I am using it as wall fan, it is very inconvenient to switch on/off the fan using either switch on the fan. Both switches are at the top of the fan when wall mounted. I plan to add an in-line switch to it or I can plug it into a switched outlet.
Also the cord that came with the fan is not quite long enough for me to hang the fan high up on the wall. I need to add a short extension cord to it.

Neat fan
It is not extremely strong, but it is quiet and the circulation works good. If you are looking for a good strong fan, I suggest the Honeywell HT800 Super Turbo High Performance Fan, but it is loud.
But this fan is great for sleep, office, or any livingrooms and the options are all great. Also if it tips over it shuts off.
Everything works fine. The timer is silent, and it is great.

Quiet, compact and powerful
In my opinion, there are two minor draw backs, though they certainly shouldn't stop anyone from buying this product. Firstly, the rubber feet could be softer to help isolate any vibration/resonance where it's mounted. Secondly, it would be good if the on/off switch was separated from the timer; when the unit's wall mounted high, you can't see the switch's labels, so you have to guess whether you're turning it on or putting it on timer.

Oscillate?? no, blow.. YES
What this fan does is, via a gearing mechanism, rotate the front grill. The grill is fashioned to generate a "butterfly pattern" of air .. rotating it causes a rotation of this air causing a variation of airflow over the area generally where the fan is directed.. I guess to a degree this is a similar effect, but it doesn't oscillate!! :)
The fan is pretty compact and generates a flow of air that is remarkably quiet, even on the highest speed.
The timer function works ok (though its not intuitive and the directions are ambiguous) To make it work, one must 1. turn ON the fan to one of its 3 speeds (there appears to be 6 speeds, but the dial rotates through what appears to be the same OFF-1-2-3 with each 180 degree sweep. 2. turn the TIMER dial CLOCKWISE (not counterclockwise as the directions say) to a time setting of 30, 60, or 90 minutes.. AND LEAVE IT THERE.. it would seem one should "wind it up" to the desired time, then turn it to "on".. this doesn't work.. :).. if you leave it on a time (or a spot in between.. the directions suggest it is only 3 times, but it seems to be analog to any spot in between) Then the fan will turn OFF after the time dialed up.. even if you "wound it up" to a higher time.. odd that.. :) My unit does emmit a TINY ticking sound, but nothing like some reviewers suggest.. its VERY quiet.
In order to NOT time it, you set the timer to ON! (I know, weird.. just do it! haha) and the speed dial to whatever speed you like.. it stays on forever.
The "oscillation" (yes its actually labeled that.. hehe) is a seperate switch. It engages electric rotation of the front grill.
The unit does seem to have a safety "turnover switch" to turn off the fan if it is kicked or knocked over.. I'd think this would require one to be careful in mounting it, but I didn't try it since I don't have it wall mounted. If you hold it in your hand while trying to figure out the controls it may not come on anyways.. it is off from the mercury switch (or whatever it is)
The "180 degree sweep" it suggests is true, but it is in an odd plane, niether up-down nor left-right.. but at 45 degrees.. so when you move it, you almost always have to also move the base to get the air direction you want.. takes a bit of getting used to. Also if you elevate the fan (other than "wall mount") it cannot be made to point airflow "down" relative to its feet.. So sitting it on a shelf or whatever above you isn't a good idea (unless you break or file off the "stop-tab" as another reviewer suggested). I expect the tab is there to prevent TWISTING and BREAKING of the wire leading into the fan, so if you remove it you will have to exercise care.
There is also no handle.. I know its a small fan, but it seems I'm always having to fiddle with it.. maybe only because I'm still learning.. and its awkward to pick up as there is really no convenient place to grip it.
I can't speak to its durability as of yet.. I've only had it about a week, but it seems as well-made as one can expect a $20 fan to be and its attractive in its own odd way.. hardly beautiful, but somehow appealling.
It is efficient if you care about those things.. it uses a max of 40 watts which is pretty good.. I note that the 20" Lasko uses 170 watts (odd.. my old one uses 90 watts.. but that's another story)
I think this fan is a pretty good value (barring the unlucky prospect of it failing). The $15-20 "box fans" which can be picked up at almost any grocery store or "mega-store" (if you get it shipped the value element goes out the window).. Lasko being probably the most common brand in the USA may be a better value if you just want air movement, but this one has it's own functional niche.
I recommend it for what it is... an economical, flexible alternative to swealtering in still air. I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5 star because other reviewers seem to indicate it may have a reliability issue. I will post an update if I have any problems develop.

super quiet
BUT, after just 2 weeks of use, the motor apparently burned up --- I had it on the lowest speed, and came into the room to a noticeable plastic-electrical smell, and the blade was barely turning. I will be returning it under warranty for another one, because i do like it.
The timer noise on the one i had was not at all noticeable like the other reviewer complains about.
The only thing i would add is a built in handle, but overall i like it.

(4.5 stars) Compact, quiet - worth considering as a table, desk or bedside fan
THE QUICK TAKE: The Soleus Air Soft-Blade Table Fan is a compact, quiet personal fan with an interesting design. If small size and low noise are important considerations for your use of a fan - such as for a table, desktop, bedside or countertop - consider this fan.
There are three major reasons why you might want to consider this fan:
First, it's compact - about 10" high, and 9-1/2" wide, and about 5.5" deep. (The four feet could stand on something 5-1/4" wide x 4" deep.) Since it's designed not to need an enclosure to keep things away from the blade, it can be smaller.
Second, while it's not silent, it's fairly quiet, and the noise is soothing rather than irritating. You could easily have a phone conversation without needing to turn the fan off, as long as the fan was a few feet away. Some may even like the way it masks other noises, in an office or as a bedside fan. Certainly no one (such as a co-worker) more than 5 feet away should be bothered by the noise.
Third, this Soft Blade fan has a fun and interesting design. The blades are softish, and the motor is designed to slow or stop if something comes in contact with the blades. Though it is unpleasant to touch - the blades spin fairly fast! - and children or animals might be a little distressed by it.
One bonus, this fan is of course a lot easier to clean than a regular fan with an enclosure - and as you know fans get dirty!
It's fairly stable, the layout of the four feet helps on that account. Mine has a slight wobble when it runs, due to something being slightly imbalanced in the fan. If it's more than slight you might want to exchange it.
This moves a reasonable amount of air, a light breeze perhaps. You do have to be realistic about what an 8" fan can do, in terms of moving air. If you need more air, get something bigger and noisier.
The negatives are minor:
- The color scheme takes away from the design, with a light gray frame and a darker gray fan blade. I'd have preferred all one color.
- You have to reach around the back to turn it on or off, which is only slightly awkward and probably the only place to put the switch other than on the cord.
- There's just one fan speed. It would be nice to have a quieter, slower option. (There are two On positions, but both do the same thing - there's just one fan speed.)
According to the label it uses 25 watts of power, which is a relatively small amount.
I would agree with the other reviewers comments.
Only 4 stars since I had to glue one of the rubber feet back on.
Also, It would be nice if there were two speeds.
I would love if there was a larger wall mounted version.

Amazon.com Review
A good fan can make the difference between a sleepless and a restful night. Soleus Air's FTY-25 10-inch table fan has three speeds and a five-finned blade--five fins move more air than the traditional four--to help make a hot, stuffy room feel much cooler. In addition, it has a timer that can be set for up to two hours; that way the fan shuts off by the time the evening is cooling down. The fan head is anchored on top and bottom like a globe, allowing it 180 degrees of rotation, and the fan grill can oscillate to push air into a wider area.
The FTY-25 table fan has a modern look to it, with an asymmetrical, crescent-shaped stand that curves around the circular fan head. It's built of heavy-duty silver plastic and has blue-gray detailing. It sits on two rounded feet; there are wall-mounting screw brackets on the underside of the feet. Speed selection is made with a sliding knob on the side, and there's a simple on-off toggle for the oscillation. The timer button echoes the crescent shape of the fan's body; it is marked in 20-minute increments, but it can be set at any point between 0 and 120 minutes. The power cord is 5 feet long, which can be especially helpful when using the FTY-25 as a wall fan.
To use as a wall fan, mount two screws vertically to a wall at a distance of 7-5/6 inches from each other, and use the two wall-mounting screw brackets in the bottom of the feet. Always unplug fan before cleaning; use a soft cloth, dry or only slightly moistened, and towel or allow to air dry afterward. Do not allow water to drip on or enter fan housing. The 115-volt Soleus Air FTY-25 table fan measures 14-1/2 by 14-1/2 by 6-1/2 inches, with a 10-inch fan head. Soleus Air offers a 1-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use conditions. --Garland Withers

Very quiet, including a very quiet timer
This fan is whisper quiet, even at the highest speed. The tilt function is useful -- it tilts at a 45-degree angle, so it's necessary to reposition the entire fan as to direction once you have it tilted to aim it where you want the air to go.
A wonderful fan!
I'm very puzzeled by another poster's comments about the "ticking timer". With the timer dial turned fully counter-clockwise (marked 'ON', meaning constant running/no timer), the spring in the mechanical timer runs out of steam after maybe 15 minutes and the fan is one of the quietest I've ever had.
Ticking Timer
The Soleus FTY-25 is a quiet fan with a noisy timer.

I'm a Fan of This Fan
This is the second of these Soleus figure-eight stand fans I've owned; I got a few years service out of the first one until the motor bearings started squeaking.
Though other reviewers have cited some problems with this fan, I haven't had any so far. And this clever Soleus offers a number of unique advantages over other stand fans:
* Remote-controlled double oscillation -- as far as I know, this is one of only two stand fans available that offer double oscillation -- side-to-side and up-and-down. The other model however, a Bionaire, doesn't allow you to control the oscillation remotely; you have to pull out the traditional oscillation knobs on the fan housing -- how quaint! In comparison, the Soleus lets you adjust the fan stream JUST where you want it using your remote, without getting up from your easy chair or bed. That's a major advantage IMO.
* Thermostat control -- set this fan on "auto", and it adjusts fan speed according to room temperature. This is great for sleeping -- the fan turns itself down automatically if the room gets cool in the early morning!
* Quiet and powerful output -- this fan blows a lot of air and does it very quietly. I was so impressed with its output, in fact, that it made me realize how lacking the output of a Turbo Aire floor fan I was using really was -- in consequence I threw out the TA and got a Vornado Edge, which is fabulous.
So what this Soleus may lack in long-term reliability it makes up with superior performance and convenience features. Amortized over a few years of service, that pays off for me.
This Soleus Air FS2-40R is FANtastic!
My wife and I have been using this fan in our bedroom for several months. We find this fan to be quieter than any other stand fan that we have ever owned (and we have owned many). I will not ramble on about all of the great features of this device as they are explained quite well in the product description here on Amazon.
The fan arrived from Amazon in just a few days. The box arrived without a scratch and upon inspection I found no damage to any of the contents. The asssembly instructions are a little confusing but it is honestly easy to figure out without any instructions. Six screws and washers attach the round, weighted base to the middle control section. Some have complained about the screw holes not aligning properly. Well I found that I had to have my wife hold the control module pole while I gently twisted the round base, at the same time that I installed the mounting screws. This allowed the screws to be installed without problem. Two small screws attach the fan motor housing to the extension pole coming from the top of the middle control section. The fan blade goes on easily. The only real challange I had was attaching the fan safety cage, which requires a gentle yet firm touch to snap the two halves together while making sure everything is lined up properly. It was after I had everything installed and the fan plugged in that I noticed that there was a layer of protective plastic over the Soleus badge plate in the center of the front fan safety cage. I pulled the plastic off and everything was ready to go (or so I thought).
I turned the fan on and played around with all of the settings. The fan worked extremly well and seemed very quiet, even at the highest speed setting. However, when we turned the fan on low, to run overnight while we slept, I noticed a little noise. It just sounded like the typical noise of the fan blades moving air. As I listened the noise seemed to get louder and softer without any sort of pattern. I shut the fan off and turned on the light. I ended up pulling the front of the safety cage off and it was at that moment that I noticed some protective plastic on the inside of the front safety cage, on the backside of the Soleus badge plate. If you remember, I mentioned that I had pulled some plastic off the front of this badge plate but obviously the plastic was wrapped around the entire plate. I just didn't notice that when I was assembling the safety cage. It was a little challanging but I was able to remove all of the plastic from the backside of that plate.
After re-attaching the front section of the safety cage, I turned the fan on low and listened carefully. The strange noise was gone and the fan has remained extremely quiet ever since. Although most of the components of this fan are made of plastic, it has a fairly solid feel. It looks very high tech and attractive. We love the adjustment abilities of the motor/fan head. Be advised, the platinum (silver) colored plastic on the base and control module scratch very easily. I put a fairly large scratch across the top surface of the round base by accident and it looks quite ugly. However, it is in our bedroom and nobody will see it anyway. Overall my wife and I would highly recommend the Soleus Air FSH-40G remote controlled stand fan to anyone looking for a quiet, stylish looking stand fan that has wonderful features, including an easy to use remote control. It is easy to assemble, moves a lot of air with very little noise, has just about any feature that you could ever want from a fan, and it seems to be built with quality components that should last for many years. The cost of this fan is not cheap but I feel a fan of this quality and performance is well worth the money we paid. =o)
*** UPDATE: After owning this fan for roughly a year the fan head suddenly tilted all the way down, as many other reviewers have complained about. A simple call to Soleus resolved the issue, as they shipped out a replacement fan at no cost to me. After taking apart the motor head assembly I found the problem. There is a plastic tab, with a little spring, that had snapped off. It is this little plastic tab and spring that is supposed to hold the entire weight of the fan motor in the desired position, and once broken the weight of the motor causes the entire assembly to flop down. Even though Soleus was kind enough to send me a replacement fan, I was also able to repair the motor head by installing a sheet metal screw, which also required me to cut the spring down to about half its original height. After reassembling the motor head it now stays in position and can be adjusted properly without fear of the adjustment assembly breaking again. I think the original design of this component is a bit poor considering the high cost of this fan. Other than this slight design flaw I still feel that the FS2-40R fan is a quality product, with a lot of great features, that should last for many years to come.
